Your footage stays yours.
Voloteca is a local-first desktop app. Your videos, photos, telemetry, flight titles and notes live on your own storage — a folder you choose, your NAS, or your own cloud bucket. There is no Voloteca account, no upload to our servers, and no ads.
What never leaves your device
- Your media files (videos, photos) and their telemetry.
- Your library database (flights, titles, notes, device registry).
- Credentials for your own remote storage — stored in your OS keychain only.
Optional, off by default: error reports & usage events
On first launch Voloteca asks whether it may send anonymized crash reports and anonymous usage events (hosted in the EU) to help fix bugs and guide development. Both switches are opt-in and can be changed any time in Settings → Error & event tracking. These never include your footage, telemetry, or location.
Online terrain lookup (toggleable)
To estimate a photo's height above ground, Voloteca can query the public Open-Elevation API with that photo's GPS coordinates — only when the drone didn't record its own altitude. This is enabled by default and can be turned off in Settings → Online services; with it off, no coordinates are sent and the estimate is simply omitted. We may self-host this service in the future so the data never reaches a third party.
Maps and updates
- Map views load tiles from OpenFreeMap and Esri; like any web map, the tile provider sees which map areas are requested.
- The app checks our release distribution service for signed updates at launch. No personal data is attached to the check.
Download analytics
When you download Voloteca from this site, we record one aggregate, PII-free event: platform, version, file name, day, and the country code resolved by the network edge. No IP addresses, no user agents, no identifiers.
